If you’re a business owner, free-time is one commodity you’re not abundant in. Between minding your day-to-day operations and balancing other areas of life, few can spare the time to become experts in technology and security.

Of course there are organizations like ISACA, formerly the Information Systems Audit and Control AsSOCiation, who seek to help SMBs. In mid-2015 they released a two reports that aimed to assist small and mid-sized businesses set appropriate data requirements and secure a sound strategy.

The problem is, not only are they charging for these reports, but what small business owner has the time to read them? Most SMB owners I work with don’t have time to read a less-than 140 character tweet, let alone a lengthy document that’s written in nerd-speak.

So what are you supposed to do?

If you’re even marginally vigilant, you know that cybersecurity is an issue central to businesses of all sizes. Let’s face it, while small businesses are the backbone of America, security companies are focused on providing solutions for large enterprise. After all, that’s where the big bucks are. You need help, but where does a small business get big business attention?

An Emerging Solution

I want to let you in on a little secret that big business already utilizes: "Managed IT Services"

Managed service providers (MSPs) are quickly becoming the standard for outsourcing the day-to-day technology management responsibilities and operations of small corporations worldwide, so the IT staff can focus on more internal initiatives and better internal client service.  Typically your internal IT staff doesn't possess the skillset that a MSP will, nor do they have the cool monitoring applications that help them keep track of the constant security threat.

Managed IT services have been around for some time now. Managed Service Providers (MSPs) have been collaborating with large IT departments for years. The data suggests that more organizations are turning to MSPs as an IT-solution.

Why?

Because large enterprise recognize the value in freeing up internal resources by outsourcing time-consuming and technically demanding IT functions. MSPs provide a partner, not a replacement.

SMBs Must Get in on the Action

If a managed IT partner is highly beneficial for large enterprise, you can imagine how valuable they are to SMBs. Those companies that have an internal IT staff of one or two IT-guys, or no IT staff at, should be chomping at the bit to partner with a Managed Service Provider. Not only for reasons of security, HIPAA compliance or data migration, but for any number of day to day functions that your business depends on to operate.

The successful business is the one that is proactive. Those who wait for problems to occur before addressing them are gambling with their business. Take the following example for instance:Your infrastructure is compromised and your tech is down. How much of a difference would reducing downtime from days to minutes be? You can’t operate, you can’t get paid. There are numerous situations where those businesses partnering with a managed IT provider have a humongous advantage over their competition.

The question is, will you be one of them?
